For Women in Horror Month, The Last Knock podcast explores Four Women of the Apocalypse.
Billy and Jonny each took a different approach to this show’s theme and they hope listeners find merit in their choices.
Neither co-host knew the other’s choices or logic. The goal, however, was to choose outstanding characters in the horror genre beyond the average “final girl.”
Creepy Criteria
It would be easy to say one would want tough women to survive in a dystopian future, but what does that mean?
Anyone can be a trigger-happy, brow-beating loon, but these Four Women of the Apocalypse need to have much more.
Besides holding onto their femininity, the women had to be intelligent, savvy leaders that could navigate a dystopian world. Each one had to be a survivor who could overcome fear and hardship and not lose a sense of self.
But narrowing the field down to a mere handful (minus a finger, of course) wasn’t easy. And that’s because the horror genre is full of female characters that trample the notions of “the fair sex.” These women don’t faint at the site of a monster or look to others to be their saviors.
In the end, Four Women of the Apocalypse is about those souls who can make the right choices at the right times. Women who have the constitution and mental fortitude to rock any scorched earth landscape.
