THE LAST KNOCK presents: Five Star Horror: Female Vampires

THE LAST KNOCK horror podcast on Female Vampires
THE LAST KNOCK opens the door to Female Vampires

Female Vampires Want You!

Years before Bram Stoker’s iconic Dracula, Joseph Sheridan Le Fanu brought his Gothic novella, Carmilla to horror readers in 1872. Although male vamps dominated the world until Dracula’s Daughter in 1936, that sparked a hunger for audiences that ultimately resulted in the rise of female vampires in the 1960s. With the mark of the Women’s Liberation movement came a bevy of vampire films with women in the lead.

For “Women in Horror Month,” THE LAST KNOCK looks at the best of the best of female vampire movies, and what makes them stand out from the rest of the horror pack. We’ll also tackle the themes of male vampires as personifications of rape using two phalluses in lieu of one, and what this says about a bloodsucker in femme form.

Plus, there seems to be a sexual double standard when it comes to male and female vampires in regard to homoeroticism. Even so, lady vamps are empowered with goals, desires, and the need to feed, and can outwit human victims just like their male counterparts – and they may do it better.

Leave your neck exposed for this one and let the power of female vampires sink in…
