Filmmaker Erik Kristopher Myers

It’s not very often that a solid film comes through in the “we can make a movie because it’s cheap” found footage vein, but writer/director Erik Kristopher Myers delivered with Butterfly Kisses.

In fact, his film sits at the top with The Last Broadcast, Lake Mungo, The Poughkeepsie Tapes, and Mortal Remains in the mockumentary sub-genre.

Talking Horror Filmmaking

Myers brings the easy to talk to coolness about his filming venture. Well versed in all aspects of documentary filmmaking, as well as in the thriller, crime, and horror genres, we discuss what it took to make Butterfly Kisses come together as a feature.

Most important, he created a well-plotted, multi-layered tale that would leave most writers frustrated. We’ll discuss what it took to bring such a detailed story to life.

Because Myers didn’t just make another mockumentary: Butterfly Kisses is to found footage what We Craven’s Scream is to Slasher movies.

The only difference is that Myers doesn’t delve into light comedy but focuses on the frustration of the protagonist. After all, Gavin York (Seth Adam Kallick) has the burden of proving that the footage he found is genuine.

Enjoy the interview with, Erik Kristopher Myers – a director to watch out for…
