Blood for Dracula: A Unique Take

As it approaches its 50th anniversary, Paul Morrissey’s Blood for Dracula remains an idiosyncratic take on the Bram Stoker mythos.

Shown in a variety of cuts – and under various titles – through the years, July saw the release of a definitive 4K/Blu-ray package courtesy of the tireless genre preservationists at Severin Films.

What Makes it a Standout

The notion of vampirism in horror cinema is well-trod territory, with many adaptations of Dracula in particular.

So what makes Blood for Dracula such a standout?

In this week’s episode of The Last Knock, Jonny Numb offers his thoughts on ‘70s hunk Joe Dallesandro, Udo Kier’s puke-tastic performance, and the film’s connections to Burial Ground, Monty Python, and industrial band Skinny Puppy, among other things.

WARNING: this episode contains spoilers!

The plot sickens: We indulge in Creature Feature Weekend!

THE LAST KNOCK horror podcast is a Crash Palace Productions’ featured show. Besides this site, you can find The Last Knock on iTunes and Spotify (and more) with new shows posted every other Sunday at 9 PM ET.

Crash Palace Productions website design and creation from Brian Yount Digital Enterprises with banner, gif, and all The Last Knock art from Palko Designs.

The Last Knock always supports independent cinema!

Note: What’s up with the one-man shows as of late? Never fear, Jonny Numb and Billy Crash are still The Last Knock duo! But due to extreme work demands, COVID-19 vaccine recovery, jury duty (both at the same damn time!), Numb’s script writing, Crash’s novel and anthology writing, and film pre-production, time has been a wayward mistress.

The pair will get on the same wavelength soon enough! (Creature Feature Weekend photo from Jonny Numb.)
