THE LAST KNOCK presents: Annihilation

THE LAST KNOCK horror podcast on Annihilation
THE LAST KNOCK opens the door to Annihilation

Annihilation of Humanity or Something Else?

Annihilation, the latest venture from Ex Machina writer/director Alex Garland, takes a team of five women into the world of strange happenings based on author Jeff VanderMeer’s novel.

The film follows the first book in VanderMeer’s “Southern Reach Trilogy” where the team respond to “The Shimmer” in Area X: A place where many military and scientific teams have entered in the past with no results – or survivors. Communications fail to penetrate the area and no one knows what’s happening in the region.

Garland’s adaptation differs from the Annihilation novel in many ways, and we’ll explore that territory to see if this adds or detracts from the overall narrative. Most important, we’ll engage the themes and try to determine what author and director are trying to tell us, if anything.

Will there be an Annihilation sequel? Garland wasn’t planning on it, and from some of the story reveals, there may be no need for a franchise, but one never knows.

You can always listen to THE LAST KNOCK on iTunes, and the crew greatly appreciates starred comments, for better or for worse, if you have the time.
